Small chapel in São Sebastião dedicated to the memory of Maria Vieira da Silva, a young woman from Terceira who died in 1940.
Azzy’s story
Maria Vieira was only 13 when she was fatally attacked in 1940, in an episode that deeply affected the São Sebastião community. The chapel was built in her memory and became a place of popular devotion; the diocesan process for her canonisation was sent to the Vatican in 2025.
