About this place
Former irrigation tank from the Franciscan enclosure, now known as “Tanque do Preto”, decorated with a hybrid figure showing African and Indigenous Brazilian features that serves as a fountain.
Azzy’s story
This unusual fountain is one of Jardim Duque da Terceira's most distinctive corners. The figure blows water through a tube into the former irrigation tank, preserving the memory of the water-supply system once used by Franciscan friars.
