About this place
Lava tube around 250 metres long, formed by ancient flows from Pico do Refugo and known for needle-shaped opal formations.
Azzy’s story
Gruta das Agulhas formed when lava flowed towards the sea and left empty galleries inside the rock. Its name comes from the small needle-shaped mineral formations covering parts of the walls and ceiling, making this cave one of Porto Judeu's most unusual volcanic spaces.
