Parish church with origins in the 15th century, dedicated to Saint Roch and one of the oldest on Terceira Island.
Azzy’s story
Igreja de São Roque already existed before 1480, accompanying the first period of settlement in this part of Terceira. The present church results from several reconstructions and enlargements over the centuries and remains Altares's main religious symbol.
