Terceira Island's main fishing harbour and one of the most important in the Azores.
Azzy’s story
São Mateus grew facing the sea, and its harbour became the heart of Terceira's largest fishing community. Even today, a large share of the fish landed on the island passes through here, keeping alive a maritime tradition with centuries of history.
